Dolly Parton, a music sensation, passes at age 80.

The music world & greater world at large was struck with tragic news on Tuesday. Dolly Parton, esteemed country music artist & pioneer for over 60 years passed away on August 25th due to undisclosed health issues, confirmed by Bryan Seaver, Dolly’s nephew and Head of Security through her social media accounts.

Dolly started her solo career in 1967, with the release of "Hello, I’m Dolly" having worked as a songwriter for various artists before. Her debut album would launch a 60 year career spanning music & film that saw her become one of the most iconic artists globally, regardless of genre, with her songs "9 to 5", "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" becoming timeless classics as Dolly built a staggering awards cabinet, featuring 11 Grammy Awards, 6 Golden Globe nominations, 3 Emmy’s and a Tony Award. Her work in film & TV was more sparse but still left an impact, with films like 9 to 5 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas receiving critical acclaim and seeing Dolly get nominated for an academy award for each film.

Dolly would also build one of the largest music catalogues in modern history, penning over 48 solo albums in addition to 18 collaborative albums in her career, the majority of the latter being done with Porter Wagoner through the 60s and 70s. She was also known for being a vocal ally of the global queer community, voicing her support for same-sex marriage in 2009 and support for transgender people after a series of anti-trans legislature came into effect in her home-state of Tennessee.

In her last days, Dolly stated she had more she wanted to do in her life. After Dolly spoke with People , she informed them she had been going through hard times with her health. “I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” Dolly informed People.

Dolly has always been a beacon of light and happiness for those around her.

Kelly Osbourne, daughter of late Ozzy Osbourne stated;

Thank you for the music, the laughter, the love, and for leaving this world brighter, kinder, and better than you found it.”

Seth MacFarlane, who worked with Parton on his series The Orville posted to X;

"The news of Dolly Parton’s passing is devastating. I had the extraordinary experience of working with her on The Orville, and it was a joy to discover that she really was exactly the person we all hoped she was. Her kindness, generosity, and authenticity were evident from moment one, and the benign yet assured command she maintained over her empire was obvious from the genuine love and trust you could see from everyone who worked for her. The world is a dimmer place today without her.”
